As part of our ongoing efforts to contribute to a sustainable future, we at Quares are proud to announce that we are among the driving forces behind the Warmtecoalitie. This initiative, officially launched last Friday at Lamot during the Climate Congress, brings together around 25 leading companies and organisations committed to making the heating of buildings in Mechelen completely fossil-free by 2050.
By signing the Warmtecoalitie charter, we reaffirm our commitment to a key shared objective: ultimately eliminating the use of fossil fuels to heat buildings in Mechelen. The need for change is clear; our city faces a major challenge, but also a unique opportunity to become a frontrunner in sustainable urban heating.
Alderman for Sustainability Patrick Princen aptly stated: “The ambition to heat Mechelen in a fully sustainable way is a powerful, yet challenging endeavour.” This is an ambition that Quares takes very seriously. We are determined to leverage our expertise in property management and our strong community engagement to accelerate the transition to sustainable energy sources.
The Warmtecoalitie
The Warmtecoalitie provides a platform where we can join forces with other key stakeholders, including energy cooperatives, educational institutions and local authorities, to work together towards a greener future. For example, the new district at Rode Kruisplein is already being heated using heat recovered from a sewer collector—just one of the innovative solutions we will see emerge in the coming years.
For Quares, this step goes beyond a corporate decision; it is a commitment to our clients, our partners and our city. Together, we will need to connect approximately 1,400 buildings each year to sustainable heat sources in order to achieve our goals. It is an ambitious yet achievable task that we embrace with conviction wherever we can truly make an impact.
We are excited about what the future holds and are determined to continue playing a leading role in shaping a sustainable Mechelen. This is only the beginning of an inspiring journey towards a climate-neutral city.
