Opening of the “Quartier Enée” retail complex

On 24 May 2023, the official opening of the brand-new Quartier Enée retail park took place in Gembloux. The project was developed by Mitiska REIM. The ribbon was cut at 8:15 a.m. by Mayor Benoît Dispa, after which the shops gradually opened their doors. The festive opening, engaging entertainment and favourable weather conditions attracted a large number of visitors.

Quartier Enée represents a new synergy zone between the city of Gembloux and a newly developed district dedicated to retail, leisure and horeca, combined with businesses, SMEs, offices and, in the near future, the city’s new Public Works department. Mitiska REIM’s ambition was to create a mixed-use project that integrates seamlessly into its surroundings, complements the city centre’s retail offering without competing with it, and strengthens local purchasing power by enhancing attractiveness and multifunctionality.

As property manager for the commercial units, Mitiska REIM once again appointed Quares Property Management (with the SME zone further developed by LCV Real Estate). With a total surface area of more than 9,000 m², Quartier Enée brings together no fewer than 11 brands under one roof, including McDonald’s, Maxi Zoo, Lidl, La Foir’Fouille, Vanden Borre, Vanden Borre Kitchen, JYSK, Aveve, KoJump, MI12 and Offside. The retail park is easily accessible and offers ample free parking.

The modern buildings have been designed using environmentally friendly materials and energy-efficient technologies to provide visitors with a unique shopping experience. The project forms part of a sustainable approach to managing both the quantity and quality of rainwater and surface runoff. The reopening of a formerly culverted stream will make it possible to bring together permeable and impermeable rainwater retention basins, as well as green spaces for relaxation and leisure accessible to the various users of the Enée district, around a high-quality landscaped area.

The complementarity of green spaces, water basins and semi-wet areas will help enhance the biodiversity of the former historic industrial brownfield site. In addition, photovoltaic panels, green roofs, and charging points for cars and bicycles will be integral components of this sustainable project. The buildings will also comply with applicable standards and will be developed with the objective of achieving at least a BREEAM “Very Good” certification.
